On October 1-2, 2024, the vibrant city of Zug, Switzerland, hosted two landmark events that highlighted its status as the heart of the global blockchain and cryptocurrency revolution: the CV Summit 2024 and the 10-year anniversary of Ethereum. These events marked a defining moment for the blockchain community, bringing together pioneers, innovators, and thought leaders to reflect on Ethereum’s transformative impact and the rapid evolution of the digital economy in Crypto Valley.
CV Summit 2024: A Hub for Blockchain Innovation
The CV Summit, held annually over the past 10 years in Zug, has become a cornerstone event for the blockchain and fintech industries. This year’s summit was no exception, offering a unique platform for investors, entrepreneurs, developers, and policymakers to network, exchange ideas, and explore the future of decentralized technologies.
With an impressive lineup of speakers, including Vitalik Buterin, Charles Hoskinson, Anthony di Iorio & MIihai Alisie Ethereum’s co-founders, Mathias Ruch CEO of CV VC, Jan Damrau of Zuger Kantonal Bank, Luka Müller of MME, Andrej Majcen of Bitcoin Suisse, Lukas Schor of SAFE, and many others the summit covered a range of hot topics. One key theme was the increasing role of AI integration in blockchain applications, reflecting a growing convergence between these cutting-edge technologies.
In addition to high-profile keynotes, panel discussions, and workshops, the summit emphasized sustainability and regulatory frameworks, addressing concerns around blockchain’s environmental impact and the challenges of navigating an evolving legal landscape. Swiss Blockchain Awards Honor Ethereum Founders at CV Summit 2024
At CV Summit, the inaugural Swiss Blockchain Awards recognised co-founders of Ethereum, including Vitalik Buterin, Mihai Alisie, Gavid Wood, Charles Hoskinson, and Anthony Di Iorio with a Lifetime Achievement Award. This event marked 10 years of Ethereum’s global contributions and for igniting a flourishing, world-leading blockchain ecosystem, celebrated by Swiss authorities, the Canton, and the City of Zug.
Government Participation: Swiss Support for Blockchain
The presence of several prominent Swiss government officials at the event highlighted Switzerland’s supportive stance towards blockchain innovation. Key figures included:

Karin Keller-Sutter, Vice President of the Federal Council and Finance Minister, shared a powerful message, welcoming Ethereum’s founders to Switzerland. She said:
“You are in the right place at the right time. Blockchain technology is at a critical juncture, and so is the ecosystem here. Will blockchain be the core infrastructure of the future financial system, and will Switzerland be at the heart of it?”
She emphasised Switzerland’s role in fostering innovation, adding, “As finance minister, I’m not only the guardian of the treasury, but also responsible for a stable, sound, and innovative financial market. In blockchain technology, we see a new technology that has immense potential to change how financial services are delivered and by whom.”
Keller-Sutter praised Switzerland’s approach to regulation: “Switzerland has always followed this approach: create excellent framework conditions, treat technologies equally—same risks, same rules—and adapt regulations quickly where necessary to enable innovation and address risks.” She concluded by inspiring the blockchain community to continue driving progress: “Above all, it is up to you to fill in the frame, to create, test, succeed, or fail and try again.”
Heinz Tännler, the Finance Director of the Canton of Zug and President Swiss Blockchain Federation, who has been a major advocate for the development of Crypto Valley. Tännler spoke on the impact of blockchain technology on finance and the Canton of Zug’s role in fostering this ecosystem.
André Wicki, the Mayor city of Zug, celebrated Ethereum’s deep connection with the city and reaffirmed the local government’s dedication to supporting blockchain initiatives. His comments showcased Zug’s early embrace of cryptocurrency and its role in setting global precedents for crypto-friendly policies.
